It’s been a while since my last post about the Home of Horrors, Haut de la Garenne in Jersey. Up until now there was not a lot of new news involving the home, but recently in this past week forensic detectives have found more evidence of the disturbing goings on in the home.

Last week while in the final two chambers to be scrutinized, sniffer dogs led forensic detectives to an area where they discovered pieces of human bone from a child or children aged around four or five and two milk teeth, bloodstained items were also recovered from one of the rooms possibly confirming that abuse was going on in the home, The abuse of more than 100 children had been happening since the 1950s to 2002 when the home was closed.

Police are also investigating two suspicious pits on the grounds that are lined with lime, last week a man came forward and told police that he was called to the home and asked to dig out the two pits with a digger, the following day after doing as they requested he was asked to fill them back in, at the time he hadn’t noticed anything untoward. So far police have uncovered numerous items to confirm the barbaric acts going on in the home, A child’s skull under the stairwell, A concrete bath with human bloodstains, on the wall next to the bath read the haunting words ‘I’ve been bad for years and years’ and a set of shackles as well as the newly discovered bones and teeth.

As of yet only one man has been charged in connection with the inquiry, Gordon Claude Wateridge was charged with three offences of indecent assault on girls under 16 between 1969 and 1979 when he was warder at the home. The 76-year-old is on conditional bail and will next appear in Court on May 12. Another man was arrested this week,  68 year old Claude Donnelly, of St Brelade,  accused of one count each of rape, indecent assault and gross indecency, Case files from the home were also handed into the police lawyers,  which could lead to more arrests.

I was shocked to hear of yet another appalling crime involving imprisonment and abuse from a person you are supposed to trust and respect. It mirrors the news of young Austrian girl Natascha Kampusch who spent eight years locked up in a windowless cell before escaping in August 2006.

The 42-year-old Austrian woman, told police that her father Josef Fritzel had lured her into the windowless basement of the block where they lived in the town of Amstetten in 1984, and drugged and handcuffed her before imprisoning her for 24 years, and fathering seven of his daughter’s children, all unbeknown by his wife, who had believed her daughter had ran away  from home to a new life. Three of the children were locked up since birth in the basement of the drab, building along with their mother and had never seen sunlight or received any education police have said.

The case only unfolded when a 19-year-old girl, the oldest of the three, became seriously ill and was hospitalised,where doctors then appealed for the girl’s mother, who was believed to have disappeared, to come forward to provide more details about her medical history.Josef then brought Elisabeth and her remaining two children out of the basement, telling his wife that their "missing" daughter had chosen to return home, police said.

What is this world coming to, how many more people are hidden away in secret chambers for another persons amusement, sadly for 24 years this woman had lived in that situation and if it hadn’t been for her daughter requiring hospital treatment it is highly unlikely that anyone would have known she existed, it also seems ironic that in both cases of Natascha and this latest victim are Austrian.

Shannon Matthews’ stepfather Craig Meehan has been remanded in custody until April 11 after appearing in court charged with child porn offences. Two computers were retrieved from the house where Meehan has been residing with Shannon’s’ mother for five years.  While searching the computers in hope of finding Shannon police discovered indecent images of children.

He was charged with 10 offences of possessing around 140 images. Police have also arrested a 25-year-old on suspicion of assisting an offender, while a 49-year old woman was being questioned on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Shannon has reportedly been confused since the abduction and is unable to give details of her ordeal while she was missing. She has now seen her mother for the first time since her disappearance, which was on Wednesday where they spent three and a half hours together, but the location is unknown, both were said to be very happy. Hopefully Shannon will be reunited with her mother on a more permanent basis so she can carry on like any other little girl, without the hassles of the papers and news reports, which is understandably upsetting all whom are involved especially the mother.

I was going to have a Wordless Wednesday only(see previous post) but I have just heard the news and couldn’t resist writing a post.

A few weeks ago I wrote a couple of posts about Shannon Matthews who was found at her stepfathers uncles house twenty four days after she went missing. Even though the youngster was found safe she still has not been returned to her mother, at present Social Services are still looking after her.

It has now come to light that her stepfather has been arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children. The 22 year old fishmonger Craig Meehan was arrested this morning after he gave access to several computers to help shed light on Shannons disappearance some weeks ago, where they came across the images of children, none are thought to be of Shannon herself and are not thought to be connected to her abduction.

I have to admit that when she wasn’t returned home to her mother I thought something wasn’t right, why keep the child away from her mother unless there was something wrong, It makes you wonder if the poor girl has told the authorities something that her stepfather may not of wanted her to mention. I may be totally wrong, but it does look a tad suspicious. Lets just say justice will prevail.

The young schoolgirl Shannon Matthews who went missing 24 days ago was found safe and unharmed yesterday.

The 9 year old who went missing from her hometown in West yorkshire was found in the base of a Divan bed at a 39 year old mans flat in Dewsbury, a mile from her home. She is said to have been found when police went to do a routine search on a house, the owner refused to let them gain access so they had to break the door down, where upon they found the young girl concealed in the bed base, As of yet there looks to be no harm come to the young girl and she appeared quite calm, the mother, earlier in the week made a statement that she thought it may have been someone she knows, who was trying to hurt her.

Thankfully this young girl has been found safe and well, lets hope the same goes for little Madeleine Mcgann

Another young girl that has gone missing is Shannon Matthews.

Shannon Matthews is a 9 year old girl who failed to return to her home in Moorside Road, Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, 2 weeks ago after going for a swimming lesson. Houses close to her home have been searched and several drivers have been stopped in the area to ask if they have seen anything. She was last seen dressed in a black jumper with a school logo, a white cotton T-shirt, black trousers and a waist-length black coat with fur round the hood. She was also wearing distinctive pink and grey "Bratz" furry boots.

Police are also investigating an attempted abduction of another child on the same day Shannon Matthews went missing.The attempted kidnap happened in Wakefield on Tuesday morning - Shannon went missing in the afternoon a few miles away in Dewsbury.The 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in a gold coloured saloon car who asked her to get into the vehicle. In the British news this week, it has been said that Forensic teams have been  searching secret chambers below a former Jersey care home where over 140 victims have claimed they were abused since the 1960s. Three secret underground chambers have been found at Haut de la Garenne in Jersey, which were bricked up.
Police have started to clear one chamber, where they have found two items which they said confirm victims’ claims of being abused, and it is reported among the items are a bath which was bolted to the floor, shackles and other restraining equipment.Victims have claimed the rooms were used for abuse and have described being raped, drugged and flogged. The Police got more than 80 calls over past few days relating to alleged abuse at the old childrens home.
The search began after police found a child’s skull at Haut de la Garenne and are now excavating seven sites which were identified by a sniffer dog specially trained to find human remains. 40 suspects are to be questioned with one arrest already being made.
Screams were supposedly have been heard with children going missing the next day, the remaining children were told they had either run away or found new homes.
This is a despicable act of crime,with some sick people torturing and abusing defenseless children, how nothing was done about it before now is beyond me, surely there was tell tale signs that something so sordid was going on, or even reports from victims. The crimes were believed to have happened between 1960 -2007, most if not all  of those children that have survived the home are now damaged for life, and no doubt suffering either depression or other mental problems.

I hope they name and shame the sick b*":*ds that have inflicted this pain on those poor souls.
It seems you can’t trust anyone these days, children are left in the hands of people with authority and it turns out to be those are the ones you have to avoid, what with priests and vicars well known for abusing children to, care home workers and foster parents. Don’t get me wrong I’m not tarring them all with the same brush as there are people of these professions that do genuinely care about the welfare of children, but it does make you doubt .

Some if not most of you have heard the story about Madeleine, who went missing whilst asleep in her parents holiday home in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

It has now been nine months since little Madeleine Mgcann has been missing, and her parents as well as others are still in active search for her. As of yet their search has been based mainly in Europe, maybe now it is time to look further afield.

Madeleine was abducted on 3rd May 2007, just before her 4th birthday. She was taken from her parents holiday apartment where she was sleeping with her siblings, whilst her parents were dining 50 yards away. Despite a massive investigation led by the Portuguese police and being supported by the British police, no-one knows who has taken her, why she was taken or where she is. As time goes on the fears for her safety grows, there have been a few sightings, which have turned out to be fruitless.

As you can see from her photograph she has a very distinctive mark in her right eye, which cannot be altered, although her appearance may have changed.If anybody has valid reason in thinking they may have seen her, there is a contact number you can call.

Let’s not give up the search.

A couple of days ago it was announced on the news, that a man called David Hodgson had been charged and found guilty with the murder of a young girl named Jenny Nicholls. She was a 19 year old girl that vanished in 2005. As of yet her body has not been found. It is said that her body was dumped in a field in Yorkshire somewhere, but the exact spot is unknown.

The police arrested a David Hodgson for her murder, apparently he had been her middle aged lover who was quite controlling and possessive. he  was eventually found guilty by unanimous decision, for her murder two days ago and  was given a life sentence, to serve a minimum of eighteen years. I always thought you couldn’t be charged with a murder unless there is a body, but obviously there was enough evidence to suggest he committed the crime.It just goes to show that in the end, justice will be done.

My thoughts are with the Jenny’s family who must be tormented by not being able to lay her body at rest in sacred grounds and not being given a proper burial in mark of respect.

Perhaps someday they will get spiritual guidance as where her body is lain, and give her the burial she so rightly deserves.

I was glad to hear the news this morning that  the jury sided with a rape victim who was trying to claim compensation from her rapist (see link)

Why the hell should fiends like the rapist  be allowed to win any kind of money whatsoever. He committed a crime and therefore should not have the opportunity to even buy tickets. The poor woman /women involved have to suffer the consequences for the rest of their lives, whilst he swans around as if nothing has happened and basks himself in luxuries. I hope she has half of his millions as she deserves it, but that still does not compensate her for what happened. As for his millions, I think it should go to rape victims units, towards any counseling that they may need. There should be a rule on any gambling that no criminals are allowed to participate, and if they do, and are proved to be criminals, should have it confiscated and divided between the causes of the proven crime, In this case Rape.
